Mayor’s Column June 13, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun and Happy Flag Day! Sunday, June 14 is Flag Day, an unofficial holiday that commemorates the adoption of the US Flag on June 14, 1777. In 1885, the first formal observance of Flag Day took place in Waubeka, Wisconsin at the Stony Hill School, which is about 45 minutes from here. If you have a flag you are supposed to fly it on Flag Day, so fly your flags proudly!

In Waupun, we have the flags flying downtown; however, a few snapped on Wednesday, when a pretty significant line of severe thunderstorms blew through our area, resulting in widespread tree damage and power outages. Within a couple of hours, city and utility crews were able to clear streets and return power to affected residents. Since the storm, the Public Works crew has been collecting branches, cleared the boardwalk, and cleaning up damage in the parks. As always, they’re doing a great job, and as residents, we’re blessed to have such a dedicated public works team that offer us such services! They will make another pass with the chipper next week so please have all branches to your curb by Sunday night.

Not everywhere can you drag down trees to the curb, and someone takes them for you. Again, thank you to all at public works.

After the storms a few trees have come down into the river. Property owners within the city are responsible for removing trees from the river in a timely manner. The river is a popular summertime activity, and people can’t enjoy it when dead trees are in the way.

Believe it or not, Celebrate Waupun is right around the corner. If you want to save money on the rides, mega bands are available now at Waupun Piggly Wiggly. While there, grab some delicious broasted chicken and wedges.

I’d also like to thank the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department for their efforts at increased enforcement of overweight semi-trucks entering the city on Beaver Dam street. Overweight trucks cause damage to city streets, and hopefully this action will remind truck drivers to use the recommended truck route.

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
