Waupun Utilities warns against misleading door-to-door sales claims
WAUPUN — Outside solar panel vendors approaching residents of Waupun at their front door have been sharing dishonest information about the cost of electricity through the locally owned utility.
One of the key messages these salespeople have been sharing is that Waupun Utilities will raise its electricity rates in 2026. That is false, said Steve Brooks, General Manager of the utility.
“This is just not accurate in any way,” Brooks said. “Waupun Utilities staff haven’t filed any paperwork to increase rates. We work hard to keep the energy we provide affordable for the community and we always will.”
Waupun Utilities is encouraging residents to reach out to the utility office staff if they have been approached by any type of installer. The utility will review information the company has provided and ensure that their customers receive correct information to make an informed decision.
The utility advises that choosing a trusted solar installer is one of the most important steps in the installation of a successful solar energy system at home. Anyone seriously looking to add panels to their property should obtain three quotes from solar contractors before moving forward. “As your locally owned utility, we can help,” Brooks said. “We’re here to provide you with the facts, no matter what, to help you choose the best for your home and your family.”
