Mayor’s Column September 27, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

The dam is fixed, and the river looks normal again, hopefully the new valve will last as long as the old one did.

Last night was the beer walk, and it appeared to be well attended from what I saw hanging around for a little while. It’s fun having so many events happening downtown. The next fun downtown event will be the new Downtown Waupun Fall Family Festival, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 18th, 1–5 PM in Downtown Waupun. Main Street will be closed for the event to allow for food trucks, kids’ activities, and pumpkin-themed fun. There will be some candy, but this replaces the downtown trick or treat event. The downtown trick or treat event was so successful that it was becoming cost prohibitive for businesses, and residents were complaining that downtown was causing a lack of kids during residential trick or treating. Residential trick or treating will take place on Halloween from 4PM to 6PM.

I’d like to thank Waupun Utilities for helping the Forest Mound Cemetery re-string their flagpole. One of the benefits of having a community owned utility company is they are local, and help local non profits and local organizations when possible. Getting to the top of the pole was something the cemetery staff really couldn’t do, and Waupun Utilities had the pole re-strung in about five minutes.

Speaking of the cemetery, I thought it would be appropriate to take a moment to thank Steve Buchholz for his many years of service as head of the Forest Mound Cemetery Association. Steve is a second-generation Buchholz to lead the cemetery association, and it can be a lot of work and Waupun is thankful for his service.

On Thursday I had my annual photo with the Poppy Princess. This year it’s extra special as the Poppy Princess is my daughter Maggie! She will be selling Poppies Saturday morning, and the locations include Kwik Trip East, Piggly Wiggly, and Walgreen’s, so maybe we’ll see you Saturday morning.

This weekend is the last weekend until bulk pickup. Your stuff is supposed to be on the curb by 6AM on your garbage day. That said, if you put it out today, someone will likely see your junk as their treasure, so I recommend getting the stuff out on the curb.

Thank you and have a great weekend,

Mayor Rohn
