Mayor’s Column September 20, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun!
Today (Saturday) is a busy day here in Waupun. This morning, I am meeting with Zander Bailey who is donating a tree to Dodge Park. Thank you, Zander! if you would like to donate a tree to a city park or the cemetery, contact Dan McGurk at Rens’ Nursery. Dan is very generous when it comes to community donations and will make you a deal.
Today we also have the Rock River Clean up, and at 10 we have the dedication of Waupun’s newest sculpture, “Eddies & Etchings” at Harris Park. The sculpture represents the path of the Rock River and was purchased through a grant from Protect Wisconsin Waterways as an educational tool to teach people about how rivers work. To learn more and see the unveiling, please join us at Harris Park at 10. Don’t let a little much needed rain keep you away! (The park shelter is right there, and the bathrooms are open for today’s ceremony)
Later today, Jenny and I will be attending a special event in honor of the 65th anniversary of the Waupun Knights. It was an honor to be invited by the KC’s and I look forward to representing the City of Waupun at their event. The Knights do a lot of good charity work for the Wapun area, and I am thankful for the work they do!
Today is also the 920 Fest at Hoya Hop House Brewing! They’ll have several vendors, art fun, and for me, a Keto Kocktail featuring sugar free drinks! Sounds like a great place to watch the Badgers on a rainy day!
The dam is fixed! As so many things in government are, it took longer and was a lot harder to fix than it should have been, however, once we were ready to go, our Public Works crew and the gate valve people did a great job in just over two days. I visited the guys on Thursday, and they were sweating. Again, thank you to the wonderful work our DPW crew does to keep this city going. I can’t say enough good about their efforts.
Tuesday through Thursday I was up in Green Bay at the 45th annual WPPI Conference. WPPI is Wisconsin Public Power Inc. and Waupun is a member. It was a very informative conference, and I was happy to represent the city. We learned a lot about challenges affecting power generation and the increasing power demand attributed to electronics, EV’s, air conditioning, and now data centers. It was nice to see how Waupun Utilities is very well respected by other utilities and is a leader in many areas.
This upcoming week we have an Economic Development Committee meeting, the annual Joint Review Board, the Plan Commission and I will attend the Community Corrections Committee at the Dodge Correctional Conference Room on Friday.
Thank you and Waup-on
Mayor Rohn
