WAUPUN — The third annual Waupun Community Christmas Tree Lighting drew over a hundred attendees at the Food Truck Alley in downtown Waupun Friday night.

The event was originally scheduled for Thursday night but was rescheduled due to projected rain that evening.

Mayor of Waupun Rohn Bishop started speaking at 6:10PM, thanking everyone for attending the event. After a prayer led by Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman, Mayor Bishop gave a short speech.

“I would like to start by recognizing the many people who make this event happen,” Bishop said. “To our incredible city team: the public works staff, utilities personnel, and all the employees who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep Waupun running smoothly, thank you.”

Bishop also thanked Bill and Pam Buchholz for donating the tree for the lighting, which was done in memory of Betty Buchholz who passed away in September. The tree was harvested from their property and transported downtown by Torres Tree Service.

“Another special thank you goes to Stephanie Starker for their integral role in planning and coordinating this event,” Bishop said. “Stephanie, your efforts are truly appreciated.”

“As we light this Christmas tree tonight, we’re reminded of the true meaning of Christmas,” Bishop continued. “This season is about more than decoration and gatherings—it’s about hope, love, and the spirit of giving. It’s about celebrating the birth of Jesus and reflecting on the values that bring us together: kindness, compassion, and a deep sense of gratitude for the blessings in our lives.”

“This Christmas tree is a symbol of that hope and unity. It represents not only the joy of the holiday season but also the strength of our community and the bond we all share as neighbors and friends. So tonight, let us celebrate not just the season, but also the values and connections that make Waupun such a special place. Merry Christmas to you all! Thank you and God bless you.”

Following the speech, Mayor Bishop and Sam Kaufman pushed the switch that turned off the market lights and after a short delay lit the tree.

Refreshments were served by Go-Dutch Solutions along with complementary hot apple cider from Tom Dooleys by the Icefest committee.

The Waupun Christmas Parade will be held December 6 and start at 6:30PM.
