Mayor’s Column November 2, 2024
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun!

It’s finally here… Election Day! Come Wednesday you’ll be able to watch the TV and every commercial won’t be a political message. I’ve been avoiding City Hall during the Early Voting season because of how busy the place has been. I did stop briefly on Thursday, and I am impressed at the professionalism and the organization of our clerk, Angie Hull and her team. Thank you to all the poll workers who’ve been helping out with this high turnout election.

Trick-or-Treating is a new issue I’m hearing about. Because of the overwhelming popularity of the Downtown Trick-or-threat, some residents want the residential trick-or-treat moved to Halloween evening. Also, people are doing more decorating for Halloween and want kids coming at dark to enjoy the decorations. If you have a strong opinion about Trick-or-Treating, please let your alderman know. Trick-or-Treat is decided by the Council sometime in the Spring.

The City of Waupun annual budget hearing will be held at the November Common Council meeting. The 2025 budget invests into both City Hall and the Carnegie Library building. We will rebuild the second half of the Rock/Newton loop, put money down for a new fire truck, and we will add part-time staff to the Recreation Department so that the new Community Center can be open earlier and later.

In 2025 we will continue to meet with the surrendering townships in regard to fire/EMS responsibilities and cost, as well as my goal to square off Waupun and clean up many of the town islands. Town islands cause issues for first responders, garbage service, street maintenance, and ordinance enforcement. I’m also excited to let you know we have several more exciting projects looking to come, and/or expand here in Waupun. While I can’t say publicly what it is yet, I can say it will continue to be an exciting time to live here in Waupun!

Last but not least, the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will be downtown on November 21 at 6pm, and the Christmas Parade will be on Friday December 6. The Veterans Day Ceremony will be on Veterans Day at the Rock.

PS. Whoever wins on Tuesday, America will be okay, and just because someone votes differently than you doesn’t mean they’re an awful person. What helps make America great is our ability to agree to disagree. Now, go vote!

Thank you
Mayor Rohn
