WAUPUN — Waupun kicked off the Christmas season Friday night with the annual Christmas Parade, lighting of the City Christmas Tree, and historical themed recipes at the Heritage Museum.

Mayor of Waupun Rohn Bishop led a small ceremony for the lighting of the official downtown Waupun Christmas tree. He gave a small speech at 5:45PM before counting down for the lighting of the giant tree. The tree was placed next to Stone + Suede in the downtown park.

“Today marks not just the illumination of this tree, but the shining of our community spirit,” Mayor Bishop said. “This event, now in its second year, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Downtown Waupun organization. Their vision and commitment is what brought this tradition to our city.”

“As we gather to light our Christmas tree we are reminded of the true meaning of Christmas, it’s a time of joy, togetherness, and reflection,” he said. “This tree symbolizes not just this festive season, but the strength and unity of Waupun. Let this Christmas tree lighting be a beacon of hope and a reminder of the wonderful community we are all a part of. Waupun is not just a place on a map, it is our home, a family, and source of endless pride.

The parade started at 6:30PM and went until about 7:15PM. Following the parade was “visit with Santa” and free open bowling at Jud-son’s Bowling Alley, which was packed to the brim.

Meanwhile the Waupun Heritage Museum held their “Cookbook Christmas” event, baking several recipes from historical cookbooks put together by Waupun women’s clubs in the first half of the 20th century. Included in the recipes were a variety of drinks, dips, breads, and deserts. Local pianist Chris Nord regaled the museum with Christmas themed piano music throughout the evening.
