WAUPUN — The Waupun Football Program is holding pre-season practices this week leading up to a Golf Outing Fundraiser this Saturday, July 22nd. Funds collected from the Golf Outing will go to purchasing new equipment and maintaining Veterans Memorial Field.

The Waupun Football Program’s pre-season practice camp will go through this week before the high school season starts on August 1st. About 35 students attended the practice camp on Monday.

Last year the football team had a total of about 45 players, but a large number of them graduated as seniors so the team is looking to recruit more to maintain and grow the team. Ideally, high school teams would want to have 50 to 60 students for a well-rounded team.

With the upcoming season they put together the Golf Outing to help cover costs for the team.

According to head football coach Adrian Harmsen, they had about 35 early sign ups after the school year wrapped up in May.

The high school football season goes from August 1st until early November when state playoffs are held.

“We’re excited, we got new coaching staff and we’re all excited to be here and excited to really turn things around,” Harmsen said about the rapidly approaching season. “I hope the community comes out and supports us and wishes us the best of luck.”

“All the money raised from the Golf Outing will go straight to our program,” Harmsen said. “We had a lot of big donors help us out, so we’re really appreciative for that.”

According to Harmsen, the funds will go towards maintaining Veterans Memorial Field and buying new uniforms, gear, and helmets.

“The program is 7th Grade through 12th Grade,” Harmsen said. “It’s everybody. So for us it’s a big deal, and we’d love for the community to come on down and support us. Whether it’s just golfing or coming down and looking at the raffle prizes or the silent auction items, or just coming to talk to us coaches and players.”

The Golf Outing will be held at The Rock Golf Club on Saturday July 22nd, with teeing off at 10AM. The Outing will include raffle baskets, hole prizes, and a silent auction.
