FOND DU LAC — County Board Supervisor and Waupun Attorney Sam Kaufman was elected Fond du Lac County Executive Tuesday night.
While Kaufman was the only one to submit nomination signatures to appear on the ballot, he faced two declared write-in opponents: Tiffany Brault and Rick Gedemer. According to the unofficial count released Tuesday night, Kaufman received 5,447 out of the 6,548 total votes. Of the write-in candidates, Brault received 949 votes and Gedemer received 66 votes. The City of Waupun reported 155 votes for Kaufman and 8 for Brault.
The Kaufman campaign focused on fiscal responsibility, expanding local economic development, maintaining area parks, and supporting law enforcement.
An election results party was hosted by the Kaufman campaign at Schmitty’s Oar House in Fond du Lac Tuesday night. The party was attended by local officials including District Attorney Eric Toney, Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt, State Senator Dan Feyen, Mayor of Waupun Rohn Bishop, former Fond du Lac City Councilman Dan Degner, and candidate for State Assembly Lawrence Foster. Waupun City Attorney Daniel VandeZande, Kaufman’s law partner, was also in attendance.
Once the election results were released at 9pm, District Attorney Eric Toney gave a speech congratulating County Executive-elect Kaufman for his victory. Kaufman thanked Toney, and along with his wife gave a few words about how much the support meant to him and the importance of the election for Fond du Lac County.
“Tonight we honored my friend, Allen J. Beuchel in this election,” Kaufman said in a Facebook post. “I promise to carry forward his message of working together to do what is best for Fond du Lac County!”
“I will lean on God daily for guidance and ask for your prayers as I begin this next chapter,” Kaufman stated.
