WAUPUN — Mayor Rohn W. Bishop was sworn in to office today at City Hall during the special meeting of the Common Council. The Council Chambers were packed with observers attending the inauguration of the new mayor, filling two rows of seats and lining the walls along the back of the council room.

Mayor Bishop’s first act as mayor was signing a proclamation honoring the years of service that former mayor Julie Nickel gave to the city. Mayor Nickel spent countless hours leading the city for the last several years, the list of achievements and changes under her administration would be too long to write here. Mayor Bishop read and signed the proclamation after a short speech from the former mayor.

Mayor Bishop also took a moment to thank the department heads for all their hard work for the City, in particular the Head of Public Works, Jeff Daane, for spending his day off on Good Friday to help the high school teams with the maintenance of the baseball fields.

The City Council decided to retain Capital Newspapers, locally known as the Daily Citizen, as the official city newspaper.

The Council decided to postpone the appointment of the vacant District 5 Alderman seat until May to allow those who are interested to apply and make their case to be appointed.

In attendance were Congressman Glenn Grothman, State Senator Dan Feyen and State Representatives Alex Dallman and Michael Schraa.

Mayor Bishop held a celebration party at The Other Bar following the meeting.
