WAUPUN — Members of the local Lions Club met last Friday to celebrate the chapter’s 60th anniversary in Waupun.
In attendance of the anniversary dinner were the members of the local chapters of the Lions Club, including Waupun and Beaver Dam. Also in attendance was Mayor of Waupun Rohn Bishop and his wife Jennifer.
Tyler Schultz gave a short speech thanking the audience for attending and for their dedication to improving the community. The Lions honored Arlen Tenpas, a long time member of the Waupun Lions Club who passed away last year. Tenpas was honored with a Melvin Jones Fellow Award for his dedication to community service.
The Waupun Lions Club is involved in many community service programs including providing scholarships for area high school seniors, supporting area youth sports, improving local parks, donating to the Waupun Food Pantry, vision and hearing aid, and more. The Lions Club also plans on introducing a new community service project soon: annual eye testing for all Waupun Area School District students.
The Lions Club also hosts an annual golf outing every June and holds brat fries in July, on top of participating in other community events such as the Downtown Wine Walk, and the Waupun Truck-n-Show.
