Mayor’s Column October 3, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun,
I’d like to begin with a point of personal privilege and report the sad news that “Big” Jim Levey passed away last night. Jim was a retired Waupun Police officer, and Waupun School District Janitor, where the kids nicknamed him “Jimbo” and he was a veteran. Jim was a friend, supporter, and loved Waupun. He had fantastic stories from his law enforcement days. My condolences to the Levey family.
Congratulations to the Waupun Warriors for the big win at the Homecoming Game! And what a beautiful day for the parade. It was great to see such a nice turnout to support the students along the parade.
In city news, the council passed an ordinance regarding scooters and e-bikes, we well be presenting a balanced budget for the 2027 fiscal year, and we have a transition plan in place at the community center, having appointed Kim DeBoer as Interim Community Center Coordinator, effective immediately. The position was created after Rachel Kaminski announced her resignation as Recreation Director. Kim will support day-to-day operations of the Waupun Community Center until a permanent Recreation Director is in place.
Many Community Center patrons already know Kim through her work as the City’s Active Older Adult Program Assistant. In this interim role, Kim will expand her focus to include general facility operations, while continuing to support the Active Older Adult programs.
Enjoy the upcoming beautiful weekend, and good luck to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Keep calm and Waup-on,
Mayor Rohn
