SSM Health Mission Action Teams in Ripon, Waupun collecting funds to school lunches for students in need
FOND DU LAC COUNTY — Mission Action Teams at SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital and SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital are hosting a coin collection drive from April 13 to May 10 to assist local school districts with unpaid lunch program balances.
Coin collection canisters will be present at both hospital information desks from April 13 to May 10 to help raise money for this cause.
While many school districts provide free breakfast to students each day, lunch must be purchased. Although districts offer free and reduced-price lunches to eligible low-income families, the SSM Health Mission Action Teams are committed to supporting our local school districts to help ensure that no child goes hungry.
One in five children in America live with hunger. Some children miss meals and are faced with daily uncertainty about food as their parents try and balance buying groceries and paying bills.
School lunch is critical to student health and well-being, it ensures they have the nutrition they need throughout the day to learn and grow. Research shows that receiving free or reduced cost lunches reduces food insecurity, obesity rates, and poor health. It also has a positive impact on student food selection and consumption, especially for fruits and vegetables.
