Mayor’s Column January 31, 2026
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun,

I would like to begin with a shoutout to the volunteers on the Fire Department for a busy week in difficult weather conditions. On Wednesday alone, they had four separate calls to respond to in near zero temperatures. Thank you all for our efforts for Waupun!

On Tuesday was my monthly listening session at the community center. My part was shorter as we also had a cool demonstration from the Waupun Police. We were able to learn about different drugs in the area, the efforts of the drug task force to combat them, and we got a demonstration from K-9 Jet.

Last week we learned long time library director Bret Jaeger will be retiring later this spring. Bret has seen many changes in his nearly 30 years leading the Waupun Public Library, including two addition projects. The library circulation numbers are always strong and have been growing. The summer reading program is always popular, as are many of the other cool events hosted at the library. The new study pod upstars is a great place to work in peace and quiet, and the library offers us parents a needed “something to do” on cold days with no school. When my daughters were litttle we used to ride our bikes to the library weekly for new children’s books. I enjoy going upstairs and reading through newspapers or reading a magazine. We’ll have a more formal send off for Bret coming up, so stay tuned, but thank you Bret for your service to Waupun!

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
