WAUPUN — The Waupun Hockey Association held their annual “Youth Night” event Thursday night, with hockey players of all ages in the Waupun hockey program attending.
Waupun Hockey players at every age level were invited to participate, and all took the ice during the National Anthem along with Wally Warrior.
Kids in the U6 hockey program played a scrimmage between the first and second period, and a game of “Chuck a Duck” was played between the second and third period. During the U6 scrimmage, the Varsity players formed a barrier on the blue lines for the young players to keep the puck in play.
“We wanted to team up with the high school team to celebrate our youth program and recognize them for the work that they’ve done because they’ll be the future of our high school program,” said Tiffany Schultz. “We wanted things to get the kids excited about hockey, so we did some fun stuff like going on the ice for the national anthem. The U6 scrimmage helped bring in a big crowd—they’re our littlest skaters getting cheered on by our biggest stakers, and the older kids love being cheered on by the younger kids. It’s just something that we like to do every year to promote the togetherness of the organizations.”
The Waupun Varsity team faced Sheboygan. Sheboygan took the win 2-0.
