WAUPUN — The Waupun Summer Concerts in the Park held their first concert this year last Thursday, kicking off this season’s lineup hosted by Waupun Fine Arts.

The first concert was held Thursday, July 3, with the Beaver Dam Community Band performing a selection of orchestral scores, including the national anthem and anthems of the branches of the United States Armed Forces.

One member of the Waupun Fine Arts committee, Maria Richards, plays french horn for the Beaver Dam Communtiy Band.

With July having five Thursdays this year, there are five bands playing in this season’s lineup.

“We’re doing a little experimenting from the typical bands that we have done in the past,” Charles Lehman said. “I think, going forward, we’re going to try to continue to do that. It feels like there’s a circuit—everybody plays the same bands. We want to say ‘so, what’s out there that’s not necessarily different, but a different band?’ so that we can show Waupun some different faces and some different music.”

“So this year’s kind of set with a couple of different bands and next year we’re going to try to do that as well,” he said. “So I’ll mix up some familiar and some new.”

This year’s lineup includes:

July 3 – Beaver Dam Community Band
July 10 – My So Called Band
July 17 – Scotty Meyer Trio
July 24 – Remington Ride
July 31 – United Men of Praise

All performances are held at Johnson’s West End Park in Waupun on Thursdays in July starting at 6:30PM. Attendance at the Concerts in the Park is free with refreshments sold by the Waupun Fine Arts Committee. Area nonprofits usually sell meals such as pulled pork, brats, burgers, walking tacos, etc. every week.

Rain venue is typically the Waupun Ice Arena, but with the Ice Arena flooring being replaced this summer the rain venue has been moved to Waupun City Hall Auditorium.

The Waupun Fine Arts Committee is also holding their annual Fine Arts & Crafts Fair on August 2 this year, 10AM to 3PM with music from Scotty Meyer.
