WAUPUN — The Waupun Library Board heard from another round of public comments related to the collections and displays issues sparked by Pastor Forsell Gappa.
The first meeting since the Mayor’s appointments took effect, the Board saw three new appointments—Alderman Ryan Meilke, Megan DeJager, and Casey Homan. The Board voted to elect Bev Martens as board president, Jan Gehl as board vice president, and Marie Svec as board secretary.
Over the last two meetings, the Library Board had been considering drafts for the staff-initiated display policy—with no discussion on removing books from the collection. Any consideration to change library policy to exclude any class of books would need to be put on the agenda prior to the meeting.
Pastor Forsell Gappa gave a lengthy speech to the City Council on May 13, which sparked a large reaction to attend the Library Board meeting this week.
32 members of the public spoke, including one member of the library staff speaking on another indvidual’s behalf, another member of the library staff speaking on his own behalf, a former library board member who stepped down recently, and two current members of the Library Board.
Only three attendees remained for the rest of the meeting after public comments concluded.
