Mayor’s Column February 1, 2025
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun
Hello Waupun!
It was another busy week as mayor! On Monday, I had both the Economic Development Committee and the Plan Commission meetings, where we did approve a new Dollar General that will be built on Waupun’s west end, in the empty lot between Anytime Fitness and Stobb Plumbing. Dollar General has outgrown the current location, and this will be a Dollar General Market, which is the largest size store they make.
Later that night, I had the privilege of speaking to the local girls scouts about city government. They were a fun group with lots of really good questions!
Tuesday was my monthly visit at the Community Center. On the last Tuesday of the month, I hold an hour-long town hall style question and answer session. It’s open to anyone, so if you have a question, concern, complaint, or compliment, please come by. I’d love to see you! This month’s was different as I was a part of the Senior Center Citizens Police Academy. The academy is a great opportunity for the seniors to learn about our police and fire departments and all they do for Waupun. Our departments are busier than most people know, and the seniors have great questions.
On Thursday, I had a group of about 20 local home schoolers tour our city. They visited City Hall, the Police Department, Fire Department, and the Utilities Water Treatment Plant. They learned all about city government, policing, fire safety, and how we make our water taste so good! One of my favorite part of this job is school groups and kiddos visiting and learning about Waupun and Waupun’s history.
Friday, I did a ride along with our school resource officer. I had the opportunity to tag along on two lock-down drills and even did a quick visit with a Social Studies Class. Waupun is fortunate to have so many professionals at our police department, and our school district, who work hard keeping our kiddos safe.
Have a great weekend Waupun, and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
