WAUPUN — Waupun Utilities held an open house “birthday celebration” event Monday to recognize 130 years of service to the City of Waupun.

Waupun Utilities has served the Waupun community as a public provider of water since 1894 and electricity since 1899.

Several displays were set up with various utility equipment, along with live demonstrations for the bucket crane and a pipe camera robot. One table discussed the reverse osmosis system at the wastewater treatment plant and the algae biomass process.

A brat fry lunch was provided for attendees, which included a slice of cake in honor of the celebration.

A door prize raffle was also held for several useful items including a leafblower, lawnmower, and heavy duty cooler. A special raffle was also for people who brought in pictures or historical items related to Waupun Utilities, but only one person brought in a photograph of a facility taken in 1974.

The event was notably attended by Mayor Rohn Bishop, Alderman Pete Kazcmarski, Alderman Dan Siebers, Alderman Mike Matoushek, and Alderwoman Bobbi Jo Kunz.

The City of Waupun observed Public Power week October 6-12.

Updated 9:01PM 10/21/24: Edited to add that Alderwoman Bobbi Jo Kunz also attended the event.
