WAUPUN — The business district by Travel Plaza is gaining another trucking-based business on Shaler Drive.

Site plans were submitted for a 2-bay truck wash to the City Plan Commission and approved at the meeting held Wednesday afternoon.

The truck wash will be located at 1815 Shaler Dr., in the property neighboring the Travel Plaza truck stop. The planned lot is an irregular trapezoidal shape with the south property line bordering Highway 151.

The site plans included changes to the curb profile and adding grass dividers. There was also discussion on moving a hydrant from the middle of the lot to closer to the easement.

The original agreement was passed at the previous plan commission meeting held March 20, on two conditions: truck staging cannot occur on the street, and they could not use hot water for the wash.

According to City Administrator Kathy Schlieve, the City had reserved land in the area for this specific use when the area was first developed. The land had been originally platted in 2004, but no development was done until 2017 when Travel Plaza began construction.

Once complete, washes can be done on two trucks at a time and there is enough space on the lot for trucks with full-length trailers to exit.

The full plan can be found in the Plan Commission meeting agenda.
