Mayor’s Column December 9th, 2023
Rohn Bishop, Mayor of Waupun

Hello Waupun,

Hey, it snowed!  And even though this weekend looks pretty mild, we are entering the winter season, and that means winter parking rules go into effect. I know our city ordinance is a little confusing, but it was a compromise that’s worked for 15 years.  Prior to the current ordinance parking on a city street overnight was banned. From November through March.  Now, we’re allowed to park on city streets unless it’s snowing, and if it snows 2 or more inches, we’re supposed to not park on city streets for two nights.  That clause for the second night allows for our DPW crew to clean up more following snow falls. If you’re not sure if you should leave your car parked on the street, play it safe and move it.

This past Tuesday, I joined Steve Brooks from Waupun Utilities at the Wisconsin Manufactures and Commence annual the Future Wisconsin Summit. They take a look at the economy entering 2024, and I attended sessions about economic development. A big takeaway from the sessions was the importance of energy to companies looking to expand or relocate. Luckily, Waupun has good, reliable, and affordable electricity. That said, manufactures are using more energy than in the past as automation and Ai become more important.  Look for Waupun Utilities to be installing a substation our in our business park, as Waupun continues to grow and expand out there.

Finally, speaking of utilities, you all know that I often brag about our delicious water and Waupun being the only city in Wisconsin with a reverse osmosis water treatment system, but now that Waupun’s new wastewater treatment plant is fully operational, we have the cleanest wastewater discharge anywhere in the county.  Waupun has really become “Wisconsin’s Water City” and look to see that branding coming to our water towers.

It’s 16 days until Christmas!

Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
